Fungal toenail infections

Treating fungal infections can be complex and challenging and are one of the most common diseases that affects toenails. Common symptoms include yellow coloured and thickened toenails or those that appear white and chalky.

It is important to point out that over-the-counter lacquer treatments are costly and ineffective. Your GP can prescribe oral medication, but these often have side effects and are not recommended for most patients taking other prescribed medication. Laser therapy is another alternative, but this can be quite painful in addition to being very expensive.

Angela Green Podiatry use PACT therapy podiatry treatments to banish your fungal nail infections. The great news is that no drugs, lasers or acids are used in PACT therapy, unlike most alternatives. Our podiatry treatments use the interaction of light with photosensitive agents to produce an energy transfer and local chemical effect to ensure fungal microorganisms are destroyed safely and successfully without causing any pain or discomfort.

What is the process of a PACT podiatry treatment?

  • Our podiatrist will cut back and reduce the nail to allow photosensitive gel to spread effectively. This process is painless.
  • The photosensitive gel is applied to the toenails for 10 minutes.
  • The PACT light is placed over the infected area with the delivery of the LED light for a 9½ period.
  • This treatment is repeated 3 times over a 10 day period in most cases of fungal nail infections.

Within 3 to 6 months, the results of our effective podiatry treatment will become clear, as this is the usual time it takes for the affected toenail to grow back.
